ABOUT FILLY

Filly's Artist Statement in her own words.

Passionate about different things and always running around crazy, I tend to shy away from the natural rules of art, and instead focus more on what comes from inside of me. I guess you can say I’m a bit of a rule breaker. Instead of being very literal with my work, I tend to lean more towards the abstract side of things. This allows for others to interpret my work as they see fit, which I like because when I paint or draw I may be thinking one thing when I am doing it, but when someone else is looking at the project, they can see or visualize something completely different and hearing what others interpret of the work is just as interesting to me then the actual process of creating it. The abstract world also allows me to express myself in a way that the literal world does not.

I use a variety of different mediums in my works from your common everyday pencil to more eccentric mediums, such as found pieces of metals and wood. I feel that this gives my artwork, not only an interesting story to tell but a lot of visual depth. I also utilize the damaged or bad photographs and damaged or bad art that I have done. I guess you can say that to me there is no such thing such as a bad photographs or bad art, because what is completely wrong technically is a new form of art to me.

Filly's Bio

Born and raised on the Northwest side of Chicago, Filomena  D'Inverno, known as Filly, grew up interested in all things creative and artsy. It started when she was small, from the occasional doodle and evolved into elaborate works of art.

Her creative hobby took a back seat for a long time as real life took over and Filly was unable to keep up with her passion like she wanted and would only be able to choke out a few works or writings every now and again. She was stuck in a dead end job for many years, and unhappy with where her life was going. In 2005 she decided that going back to school would help solve the problem. Sure enough it did. She now studies biology and is hoping to become a vet and it has fueled her creative passion for the arts all over again! It's funny how an outside source can totally trigger the creative process!

Her love for biology, animals and nature are incorporated into her works of art. She is inspired by the shenanigans of her pets, and it sometimes inspires silly art. Her love for nature brings fourth many drawings and paintings of landscapes, sunsets, sunrises and beach scenes. Her passion for biology inspires such creations as her Sears Tower replica made completely out of microscope slides and her currently in the works replica of the Eiffel Tower made entirely out of matchsticks. She utilizes many biological and scientific concepts in the creation of a piece and has now come to rely on her biological supply catalogs for many tools that she uses in her works of art!

Filly also has big love for the abstract world, which came about when she was suffering from insomnia and since then that has been a huge focus and part of her creative career. She finds that she is able to put her thoughts down on a piece of canvas and convey her thoughts though the abstract world!

Filly would like to thank the furry, 4 legged loves of her life for inspiring lots of her works. Her best friend Jake, who is and always will be like a big brother to her and has been there for her through thick and through thin, and no matter how bad things got he always pushed her forward. Her dear friend Mandi for always being a friend and always wiling to help critique a piece and offer advice on how to improve. Her mom and dad for creating her! Various teachers and professors for teaching her new and creative techniques and offers of support! And lastly, her muse for without it she would be nothing!

Thank you!
