“A Mother’s Love”

There is no language large enough to describe a mother’s love.

It begins long before memory and stays long after memory begins to fade.
It is the first place we learn safety, the first voice we recognize, the first hands that teach us the world can be gentle.
Even when life becomes complicated, there is something inside us that still looks for home in the sound of our mother’s voice.

A mother’s love is ordinary in all the ways that matter.

It is reminding you to eat.
It is worrying when you are late.
It is knowing your favorite meal without asking.
It is carrying your burdens before you even realize you have them.It is giving pieces of herself so quietly that you forget she is giving them away at all.

We spend so much of our lives believing those moments will always be there.
Then one day, they aren’t.

Grief does not arrive only as tears.
Sometimes it arrives as reaching for the phone before remembering.
Sometimes it is seeing something beautiful and realizing there is no one left who will understand exactly why you wanted to share it.
Sometimes it is hearing someone say “Mom” across a crowded room and feeling your own heart answer before it remembers.

People tell you she lives on in your memories.

They mean well.

But memories cannot hug you when the world falls apart.
They cannot answer the questions only she could.
They cannot tell you that everything will somehow be okay in the voice you’ve trusted since before you knew what fear was.

The hardest part is not that love ends.

It never does.

The hardest part is discovering that love can remain exactly where it has always been while the person who carried it is suddenly beyond your reach.

You become older than you ever wanted to be.
Not because of birthdays, but because there is no longer someone standing between you and the weight of the world.

And still…

You find her everywhere.

In the kindness you offer without thinking.
In the recipes made from memory instead of measurements.
In the words that leave your mouth that sound strangely familiar.
In the strength you didn’t know you possessed until you needed it.

A mother’s love never truly leaves.

It becomes the quiet foundation beneath every step you take.
It becomes the courage that appears when you have none of your own.
It becomes the invisible thread that stretches beyond life itself, refusing to break.

The grief remains because the love remains.
If she had meant less, this would hurt less.
But she meant everything.
So you carry both.
The love.
The longing.

And the impossible wish that, just one more time, you could lay your head against her shoulder and be someone’s child again.

I love you, Mommy!
