I Did the Things

Originally written August 3, 2026

Today’s update.

I woke up to an email from my auto insurance company warning me that I’ve used my roadside assistance five times in three years and threatening to jack up my premium because of it.

I threatened to cancel all five of my policies.

They did not care.

Insurance is the biggest scam ever.

Anyway, I showered and took my meds.

Then I went to the funeral home to pick up my mom’s flowers and photos and pay the bill. Apparently, you can’t even die without being charged an arm and a leg.

That makes me mad.

But underneath the anger, I’m also just sad because Mom is gone, and now I don’t have her here to bitch to about the absolute bullshit that is corporate America.

I miss having someone to call and complain to. I miss knowing that no matter how ridiculous or insignificant something was, I could tell my mom about it.

After that, I came home and did some more work around the house. My shop is still a complete mess, but my office is actually starting to look like an office again, so there’s that.

Also, I hate grief.

My house is too goddamn quiet.

And there’s something wrong with my eye.

But whatever.

I showered. I took my meds. I went to the funeral home. I paid the ridiculously expensive bill. I picked up Mom’s things. I cleaned part of my house.

I did the things.

I guess I achieved something today.
