Beaker is a Dickhead!

Today’s update.

I slept in a little bit this morning. I had a rough night with pain thanks to a fibro flare, so when I woke up, I wasn’t feeling particularly great. I eventually managed to drag myself out of bed around 11, did the basics, took my meds, fed myself and took care of my dickheaded dog.

I swear I love Beaker to absolute bits.

But he’s a dickhead.

I attempted to go downstairs for a little while because I got more bead storage and thought maybe I could make another dent in the endless array of beads I’ve somehow accumulated. I swear they multiply when I’m not looking.

Unfortunately, Beaker had other plans.

While I was downstairs, he decided to tear into my garbage bins, which he has somehow figured out how to open. Apparently, somewhere underneath all that adorable beagle nonsense, there are actually a few beagle smarts floating around in there.

He just chooses to use them for evil.

He’s been really naughty lately, but I also know there’s more going on with him than simply deciding to be an asshole. His separation anxiety has gotten pretty severe. He’s always had a little bit of it, but lately it’s gotten much worse. Almost every time I leave the room, he immediately finds something he shouldn’t be doing.

I can’t even pee in peace right now.

That’s one of the reasons I’ve been trying to spend more time with him. More walks, more rides, more hanging out together. His world changed too, and unlike me, nobody can sit him down and explain why. He just knows someone who was always here suddenly isn’t here anymore.

So I’m trying to have a little patience with my dickhead.

Unfortunately, that creates a bit of a Catch-22. I need to work downstairs so I can get the basement and shop organized enough that it’s safe for Beaker to come down there with me. But I can’t spend enough time downstairs organizing it because Beaker can’t come with me yet, and apparently leaving him upstairs alone for thirty minutes is enough time for him to begin a small criminal enterprise.

We’ll figure it out.

At the very least, he’s keeping me on my toes.

I did manage to get quite a bit accomplished upstairs. My hallway is finally clean, and I’ve made a significant dent in my office. I had part of the kitchen cleaned up too, but then approximately 100 boxes of storage containers showed up for my bajillions of beads.

Shhhh.

We don’t need to talk about that.

I’ll bring those downstairs little by little and eventually all of these beads, charms and jewelry supplies will have actual homes instead of living in whatever random container I shoved them into when they arrived.

At least that’s the plan.

There really isn’t much else to report today, which I’m realizing might actually be a good thing. Not every day needs to contain some enormous emotional revelation. Sometimes a day can just be pain, chores, beads and a badly behaved beagle.

Tomorrow I might venture over to Dollar Tree and start stocking up on Halloween stuff for Season 7 of 31 Days of Halloween.

Yes, it’s already that time again.

We’ll see how I feel tomorrow.

Monday is the bigger thing hanging over my head. I have to go downtown to the Daley Center and file my mom’s will. I’ve been putting it off because I really don’t want to do it, but it’s one of those things that isn’t going to disappear simply because I keep avoiding it.

I haven’t been able to find anyone to go with me, so I’ll probably go alone.

Maybe that’s okay.

If the weather is nice and I’m feeling up to it afterward, maybe I’ll wander around the city for a little while. I don’t have to rush straight home. Chicago has always been one of those places where I can just walk around, look at things, take pictures and let my brain wander somewhere else for a while.

Maybe I’ll make a little day out of something I really don’t want to do.

We’ll see.

For now, I’m going to enjoy my clean hallway, attempt to ignore the absurd number of bead containers currently invading my kitchen and keep one eye on Beaker before he figures out how to open the refrigerator.

With his newfound beagle smarts, I wouldn’t put it past him.

Okay, bye!
