Something Is Better Than Nothing

September 15, 2026

Today was actually a pretty decent day.

Not perfect. Not magically fixed. But decent.

I spent a good chunk of the day working around the office and shop, mostly taking product photos, writing descriptions, fixing listings, pricing things and catching up from all the delays.

The office finally feels like an office again, which I’m proud of. I still have the podcast area and studio to finish, but those can wait.

One thing at a time.

Apparently that is my life motto now whether I like it or not.

Shop Stuff

I was supposed to do a product drop this past Friday, but I didn’t feel well, so I pushed it to this coming Friday. I’m also planning another one for next Friday.

Honestly, I think Friday will probably become my regular drop day. It gives me something to work toward without making me feel like I have to constantly publish new stuff every day.

This week will still be pretty crystal-heavy, but I also want to get more handmade pieces into the mix.

I spent a little time working on Own Your Splash too. That shop is going to be really special, which is exactly why I’m taking my time with it. I don’t want to rush it just to say it’s open. I want it to actually feel like what I imagined.

Welcoming. Inclusive. Useful. Fun. A little weird.

Basically, very me.

And for the first time in a while, I feel a little better about where my businesses are headed.

That doesn’t mean I’m suddenly okay. There are still way more bad days than good ones. I still don’t really want to be around people. I’m still angry, bitter and sad.

But something felt a little lighter today.

I’ll take it.

I Made Something

The thing that actually made me smile today was making rings.

Like, genuinely smile.

That doesn’t happen much lately.

I’ve picked up a few texture hammers and some ring blanks, and today I sat down and made a few textured rings. They’re simple, but I made them, and that felt really fucking good.

You can see them over on my Instagram at @bgfilly.

I also practiced writing on rice again. I haven’t done that in a long time either.

It felt good to do something creative instead of just administrative. I’ve spent so much time photographing, organizing, pricing, listing, doing paperwork and dealing with estate stuff that I forgot how different it feels to actually make something.

Will this creative burst last?

I have absolutely no idea.

But hey.

Something is better than nothing.

Tomorrow

I have therapy tomorrow, so I’m guessing it will probably be a lower-key day. Therapy tends to drain the hell out of me.

I also once again have a ton of stuff sitting in my kitchen.

Of course I do.

Most of it belongs downstairs, so hopefully I can move it sometime this week and reclaim my kitchen again.

For approximately twelve minutes.

Then I’ll probably put something else there.

Estate Stuff Is Still Looming

Next week I’m going to attempt to knock out some more estate stuff.

I still need one more notarized bank form, then I need to get my dad’s car title moved into my name. After that, hopefully I’ll have another meeting with my estate attorney to finish my trust, power of attorney and last will and testament.

I also need to call the cemetery and start looking into purchasing a crypt for myself.

No, I’m not planning on going anywhere anytime soon.

Absolutely not.

But if I’m doing all this estate planning, it makes sense to have that figured out too so whoever is handling things someday knows exactly what I want.

Still hate it.

Still doing it.

Once all of that is behind me, I have to focus on the thing I’ve been dreading the most.

Going through my parents’ belongings.

Sigh.

That one is going to hurt.

There’s no funny way to put it.

I already know it’s probably going to make the depression worse for a while.

I’m already in one.

So I guess we’re talking basement level depression.

Cool.

Can’t wait.

But I don’t have to clean out their lives in one weekend. I don’t have to make every decision immediately.

A little at a time.

For today, though, I made some rings, practiced writing on rice and actually smiled.

That’s enough.

Anyway…
