Blue Flowers

When my dad passed away last year, I dried out the flowers from his funeral and made a little jar with “Dad” engraved on it.

It was my way of keeping a small piece of that moment. A reminder of him. Something I could hold onto when I missed him.

Today, I did the same thing for my mom.

I dried the flowers from her funeral and made her a little jar too.

These blue flowers were such a perfect choice.

Blue was my mom’s favorite color.

It’s mine too.

There’s something comforting about knowing that even in something as simple as flowers, there was another little connection between us.

A favorite color.

A memory.

A piece of her that I can keep.

My dad has his jar.

Now my mom has hers.

Two little reminders of two people who shaped my entire life.

I miss them both more than words can explain.

But now, when I look at these flowers, I get to remember not only the day I lost them.

I get to remember that I was lucky enough to have them.
